What is the New York State 5 Hour Class, a.k.a. The Pre-Licensing (5-Hour) Course, which is required for all drivers looking to obtain a driver’s license? ALL PARTICIPANTS OF ALL AGES are welcome to attend our 5 Hour Classes online--however, please be sure you have a valid New York State learner permit prior to enrolling. Easy Method is a registered Driving School certified to operate in all of New York State, including New York City, Long Island, Albany, Buffalo, Syracuse, Rochester, Plattsburgh -- from the Southern Tier to the North Country, the Hamptons to Niagara Falls; Adirondacks, Catskills, Finger Lakes, and beyond. This is here to provide a little more background to inform your expectations for the pre-licensing course in relation to obtaining your license to drive in New York State. Whether you call it the Five Hour Course, Prelicensing Class, 5-Hour, etc… it is all the same thing. In New York State, the Pre-Licensing Course is required in order to qualify any person who would like to take a road test to obtain a driver’s license. Upon completing The 5 Hour, you will be mailed an original certificate of completion (NYS DMV Form MV-278) the next business day. You must take the physical certificate with you to the Road Test. You must complete The Five Hour BEFORE scheduling and taking your test. If you do not have the physical pre-licensing certificate with you in hand when you arrive at the road test site, you will be denied a road test that day. If you are 16 or 17 years of age, the Distance Learning/Virtual Classroom Pre-Licensing Course we provide online, over Zoom, is Live, in real time, with face-to-face interaction between the instructor and participants. The virtual online 5 Hour classroom format that we provide is acceptable for ALL ages (and is the online format required for anyone 16 or 17 years of age that does not take an in-person class). |
